I like pipes with a ring in the shank. Rhodesian shape of pipe is my favourite. So I decided to try to create a rhodesian with a brass ring. The top part of the pipe bowl is better to turn at the lathe.
First cut and "half" of the bowl is done.
Small wooden block was turned to fit the brass ring and hole in the shank. The shank extension with the ring was glued into the pipe body.
The limit for the shank size was the diameter of available ebonite rod.
I gently applied red stain and then polished the pipe using carnauba wax.
