On my Canon PowerShot G11 camera the control wheel became faulty. I try to repair it.
The control wheel is connected to the circuit board in four spots which allows small movemet when
the control is pressed.
After removig the control from the loops all contact spots are accessible for cleaning. Usage of contact lubricant is recommended.
I do not recommend dismantling of the control. The control consists from three rings kept by the central button. In this button is spring with two small bearing balls, which detent the wheel. Pictures of the completely disassembled control:
